Pointe Work Guidelines


Celebration Company Requirements for Company C

Company C Ballet Curriculum
Continue to improve skills learned in Company B.
Improve musicality: Dancers must move in rhythm with the music.

Dancers are placed in Company C for a minimum of two years.


Teachers will focus on the following skills during Company C ballet classes:

Barre
Introduce:
• Fondu with fouette.
• Half turns.
• Tombe.
• Frappe: releve to pointe, tendu, plie.
• Developpe balance - (lifting leg to full height, drop 4 inches, lift again to full height)
• Developpe, ballotte.
• Penche.
• Grand battement and developpe.
• Pointe with demi-rond de jambe.

Center
Begin to perform exercises en releve:
fondu, rond de jambe en l'air, petit battements, frappe, tours a la second, all double pirouettes.

Allegro
Introduce:
• Changema entournant.
• Emboite entournant.
• Echappe en tournant a la second.
• A ssemble porte.
• Assemble battu.
• Compound echappe battu.
• Entrechat-trois.
• Jete battu.
• Ballote at 45 degrees.
• Brise.
• Cabriole (beginning at barre).
• Chasse entournant.
• Assemble entournant.
• Italian pas de chat.
• Temps de fleche.
• Sissonne simple entournant.
• Single tours (for men)
• Tours from 2nd position.

Pointe
Introduce:
• Sissonne releve
• Ballonne, releve.
• Releve in a position (i.e., arabesque) in center
• Pique at 90 degrees.
• Coupe, pique, ballonne.
• Soutenu turn.
• Pique, fondu.
• Emboite sur le pointes.
• Tours from 5th.

In order to move up to Company D, the Company C dancer must demonstrate:

1. Well lifted posture at all times.
2. Begin to develop artistry in each movement.
3. Excellent use of epaulment in all movement.
4. Excellent musicality.
5. Strong balance en releve in all positions.
6. Excellent flexibility with extension well above 90 degrees.
7. Ability to hold extension well above 90 degrees at the barre and center with control.
8. Demonstrate strength, stamina, and gracefulness.
9. All adagio movements (developpe, fondu, etc) performed with fluidity and control with a feeling of resistance.
10. Execute clean and precise beats in petit allegro battu.
11. MUST be able to perform clean entrechat-quatre, entrechat-trois, jete battu, assemble battu.
12. Petit allegro exercises must appear to be weightless and lifted.
13. Use full extension and height in all grand allegro with soft, well lifted landings.
14. Must go onto pointe with straight knees. Bent knees are unacceptable, and upon evaluation and conference, dancer may be taken off pointe.
15. Ability to perform exercises in center en releve with control and correct posture.
16. Clean and consistent double pirouettes en pointe.
17. Have excellent attendance record for class and rehearsals during previous year.
18. Dancer must have been prepared for every class during the previous year.
